Why Owner Insights AI exists

Built because we needed better answers from our own business.

We did not begin with an AI product and search for something to do with it. We began with a business owner’s questions—and discovered how much faster and more accurately we could make decisions when reliable business information became something we could interrogate directly.

The problem came before the service

A good bookkeeper
was not the problem.

Our own business already had very good bookkeeping. Linda kept the underlying financial information organized and dependable. But dependable records and immediate understanding are not the same thing.

When a new question occurred to Tim, the answer might require a different report, a manual comparison or time spent tracing several figures. The information existed, but it was not always available in the form needed for the decision being made at that moment.

We began using GPT to analyze our own business information. Questions that previously required another report or a round of manual analysis could often be investigated immediately. Just as importantly, Tim could ask the next question, challenge the first answer and keep exploring until the reason became clear.

The questions behind the idea

What would you ask if you did not have to wait for another report?

These are the kinds of questions that showed us the difference between possessing business data and being able to use it.

01

Why is revenue increasing while cash is getting tighter?

02

Which customers, services or products are genuinely the most profitable?

03

Who produces the most revenue—and who produces the most gross profit?

04

Which expenses have changed materially, and what is driving the change?

05

Are receivables growing faster than sales?

06

What would hiring, changing prices or losing a major customer do to the business?

What the experiment taught us

AI can make an answer fast.
It cannot make unreliable data true.

The breakthrough was real, but so was the limitation. A confident answer is not necessarily a correct answer. The right information must be available, financial terms must be defined consistently and important results must be tested against the source records.

That is why Owner Insights AI is a managed implementation rather than merely access to an AI tool. We identify the questions, organize the required information, define calculations, configure the experience and validate the answers before asking people to depend on them.

Business questions meet financial discipline

The people behind the service

Owner Insights AI grew from the combination of an owner who wanted better answers and a bookkeeping professional who understood what reliable financial information requires.

Tim Barrie, business owner and creator of Owner Insights AI
BUSINESS OWNER AND SERVICE CREATOR

Tim Barrie

Tim has spent his career using systems to make complicated organizations easier to understand and manage. His background includes leadership work with Intel and LANDesk and building businesses in marketing, staffing and professional services.

With Owner Insights AI, Tim leads the business discovery: what the owner needs to know, why the answer matters, which follow-up questions reveal the real issue and how the result should be presented so somebody can act on it.

The owner’s perspective: begin with the decision, not the software.
Linda Dodridge, bookkeeping and accounting lead for Owner Insights AI
BOOKKEEPING AND ACCOUNTING LEAD

Linda Dodridge

Linda’s bookkeeping and accounting experience dates to 1993, when she helped American Standard establish a new distribution center in the Columbus area. Her responsibilities expanded from inventory control into office systems, staffing, payroll for approximately 80 warehouse employees and IBM AS/400 reporting and training.

Her later work included technical systems supervision at DSW and a decade providing accounting and technical services for a large law office. She implemented networks, backups, QuickBooks, payroll and more effective reporting—experience that now informs how Owner Insights AI prepares and maintains dependable financial information.

Linda also leads Columbus Bookkeeping & Accounting Services, whose U.S.-based and international accounting and technical professionals help smaller businesses keep their records accurate, organized and useful.

The financial perspective: an answer is only as dependable as the records beneath it.
